Ordering and Small Print

Getting Started

I am happy to have a general discussion at no cost regarding the proposed build prior to putting specifics down on paper. I ask for a deposit of $200.00 before specification begins as an indication that you are serious about moving forward with the build. The deposit is not refundable but a portion may be credited against the final cost depending on how much time the design and specification phase requires. A written specification sheet with costs will be produced and approved before any materials are ordered.

A deposit of 1/4 of the estimated cost will be required to reserve a spot in the schedule. A second payment of 1/4 of the cost will be due prior to commencement of work. Balance of cost is due prior to the instrument leaving my shop. It is always best for the new Owner to pick up his or her instrument at my shop. If shipping is requested I will pack it in a quality hard-shell case and then have that packaged at my local UPS store (or any other packing facility requested by Owner) and shipped with what ever insurances requested by Owner. Case, packaging, shipping and insurance costs to be paid for prior to shipping.
Acceptance/rejection: Owner will have 10 days from receipt to accept or reject the instrument for any reason. No questions asked. In the event the instrument is rejected, Owner will return the instrument to my shop at his/her expense and I will put it up for sale at what ever price Owner deems appropriate. Upon completion of sale Owner will receive the total of the sale less 5% handling fee.
Sales tax: Appropriate taxes will be added to all California sales or as otherwise required by local ordinance.

All work warranted against defect in workmanship for the life of the original Owner or until I meet my own demise, which ever comes first. Warranty is extended to the original owner and is not transferable. Damage due to neglect, accident, and normal wear and tear is not covered. Changes that occur to the instrument due to environmental conditions such as relative humidity and temperature are to be expected and are not covered under the warranty. Damage due to ignorance or lack of proper care is not covered either. It is assumed that you have common sense and an understanding of what is required to care for a wooden instrument.
Materials: All materials to be provided by Nelson Stringed Instruments. Under special circumstances I may consider using Owner provided materials. Terms to be clearly defined before work begins.
